Women Prefer Physically Strong Men For Short-term Relationships: Study – News18

The study claims that for long-term relationships, women prefer happy-go-lucky men.

The findings also claim that success in long-term relationships is achieved only if the partner has a good sense of humour.

Relationships depend on several factors such as your looks, personality, communication, trust and other things. Some prefer looks over personality while other goes for stability. Now, a recent survey done by Mitch Brown, a psychology professor at the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas tried to answer some questions about the likes and dislikes of women regarding men in terms of relationships.

According to this research, in short-term relationships, women prefer physically strong men whereas in long-term relationships, women generally prefer happy-go-lucky men. The findings also claim that success in long-term relationships is achieved only if the partner has a good sense of humour.

The women decide their partners based on the duration of the relationships. They have different preferences when it comes to men. The main objective of this research was to understand the factors that influence the social perception and interpersonal preferences of women. To understand the preferences, researchers recruited 38 women and asked them to imagine being approached by a single man in a bar.

After this, they were shown the photo of a man with a muscled torso and the less muscled guy in a digitally altered photo. The women rated the muscle guy higher in terms of a short-term relationship. However, for a long-term relationship, they still rated the muscled guys higher but this time, they were not as sure. The friendly, funny man was rated more highly than the aggressively funny man for a long-term relationship.

According to Dr Mitch Brown, who led the study, muscled men are attractive because women want to find a mate with strong genes and hence they associate muscles with being fit and healthy. However, in the long term, it is important to find a kind person who will support his family.

The study, which was published in the journal Personal Relationships, found that women think that strong men are more extroverted. However, they are more neurotic sometimes which can be disappointing for the women.
