After defeating Pakistan in their opening match earlier this week, India are currently taking on hosts New Zealand in the ongoing Women’s World Cup at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Having decided to bowl first, India got off to the best possible start as New Zealand’s star opener Suzy Bates ran herself out while trying to steal a single. However, the initial breakthrough came due to the brilliance of Pooja Vastrakar, who hit the stumps straight from the point area.

Vastrakar then dismissed New Zealand captain Sophie Devine in his first over, who had stabilized the Kiwis after Bates’ early dismissal.

Bates and Amelia Kerr put on 45 runs for the second wicket before the former dismissed Richa Ghosh off Vastrakar.

Earlier, India started their campaign with a 107-run win against Pakistan at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Smriti Mandhana, Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar scored fifties to take India to a total of 244/7 in 50 overs.

Defending the target of 245 runs, Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly and bundled Pakistan for 137 runs.
