‘World class market will be in Delhi’s Kamala Nagar’

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia visited Kamla Nagar market on Wednesday and said that the Delhi government is planning its redevelopment in consultation with traders.

“Once the plan is finalised, the project will proceed at a great pace. We will beautify the area and provide business friendly environment,” said Mr. Sisodia.

Describing Kamla Nagar market as an essential part of Delhi University’s culture, Mr Sisodia said that it will become the pride of Delhi once it is transformed into a “world class” market.

During his visit, Mr. Sisodia identified the lack of sanitation, public utilities and parking facilities in the market. He said that as part of the reforms, the overhead transmission lines would be underground.

He said that the government would ensure that the people visiting the market as well as its traders get a unique and quality experience.

“Kamla Nagar Market is the heritage market of Delhi. Unfortunately it has fallen victim to the inadequacies of MCD. The Delhi government has now taken the lead in revamping and rebranding this market to maximize its potential,” said the deputy chief minister.

On Monday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government will redevelop five markets – Kamla Nagar, Khari Baoli, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Kirti Nagar – as per global standards.
