Indore: The world listens to India and the country has what it takes to become a global skill capital. PM Narendra Modi Inaugurating the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Indore on Monday.
“Today, the world listens to India. It can become the engine of world development. “India taking over the Presidency of the G20 this year presents a great opportunity for the world to share India’s experiences in achieving a sustainable future and learn from these experiences.”
He described NRIs as ambassadors of India’s heritage, Make in India campaign, Yoga, Ayurveda, cottage industries and handicrafts. He asked them to be “India’s brand ambassadors of millets”, adding that 2023 has been declared the International Year of Millets and appealed to everyone to bring back some millet products back home.
President of Guyana Dr. Mohamed Irfan Ali and President of Suriname Chandrikaprasad Santokhi were special guests on the occasion.
Modi said that as part of the G20 summit, there will be over 200 meetings in cities across India, which will provide “a great opportunity to establish meaningful relationships with representatives of many countries”. He said that the G20 is not just a “diplomatic event, but it should be turned into a historic event of public participation where the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava can be seen”.
Referring to the Indian philosophy of considering the whole world as our country and treating all humanity as brothers and sisters, Modi said that our forefathers had laid the foundation for India’s cultural expansion.

He said that Indians have traveled the world, and living among different cultures and traditions, have found ways to open doors of prosperity through business partnerships. He suggested that continuous efforts should be made by universities and research institutions to document the lives, struggles and contributions of NRIs.
Urging NRIs to visit India during festivals or to watch programs related to independence nectar festival, he said: “With traditional understanding and modern outlook, the young diaspora will be able to tell the world about India more effectively. Growing curiosity about India among the youth will increase India’s tourism, research and pride… In the last eight years, India has tried to strengthen its diaspora. It is India’s commitment today that wherever you are, the country supports your interests and aspirations.
He said that the world is watching with great interest because of the achievements of India in recent years. He said that India is making several records of launching hundreds of satellites simultaneously and India’s software and digital technology capability is advancing rapidly. Modi said India will be stronger in the near future and urged everyone to enrich their knowledge about the country’s progress.
He released a commemorative postage stamp ‘Go Safe, Go Trained’ and inaugurated the first ever digital Pravasi Bharatiya Divas exhibition on the theme ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence – Contribution of Diaspora to Indian Freedom Struggle’.
