India’s Manika Batra works out against Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata during the quarter-final mixed doubles match of the 2021 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships at George R. Brown at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Star India paddler Manika Batra failed to clinch a medal at the World Table Tennis Championships after losing in the quarterfinals of the mixed and women’s doubles events here.

Just one win away from a historic medal, Batra and Ji Sathiyan lost 1-3 (5-11 2-11 11-79-11) to Tomakazu Harimoto and Hina Hayata of Japan in the last eight rounds of the mixed doubles competition.

Batra had another chance to create history, but she stumbled again, losing in straight games to her partner Archana Kamath in the women’s doubles quarterfinals.

Batra and Kamath were no match for the Luxembourgish pair of Sara De Nutte and Ni Xia Lian, losing 0–3 (1-11 6-11 8-11) in a one-sided encounter.
