World’s first Covid nasal vaccine by Bharat Biotech to be launched on R-Day, says founder Krishna Ella

Bhopal: Bharat Biotech Founder, Chairman and Managing Director Krishna Ella said at the ongoing India International Science Festival in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh that the world’s first nasal vaccine iNCOVACC – developed indigenously in India – will be launched on Republic Day.

He also announced that the vaccine for lumpy dermatitis – Lumpy-Provac – a virus that affects cattle, would also be launched next month.

Ella was addressing a gathering at the festival being organized at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Manit on Saturday.

iNCOVACC is the world’s first nasal vaccine for COVID-19. was vaccinated Approved For emergency use by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in December last year for restricted use in emergency situations in the age group of 18 years and above.

Phase III trials were conducted for safety and immunogenicity in approximately 3,100 volunteers at 14 trial sites across India. The heterologous booster dose study – where the nasal vaccine was given after two doses of a different Covid vaccine – was conducted in approximately 875 people for safety and immunogenicity.

The clinical trials were conducted in nine trial sites across India. The nasal delivery system has been designed and developed to be cost-effective in low- and middle-income countries. This vaccine is stable at 2-8°C for easy storage and distribution.

According to a PIB (Press Information Bureau) statement, Bharat Biotech has set up large manufacturing capacities at multiple sites across India, including Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana.

Meanwhile, Lumpy-Provac – a vaccine for cattle against lumpy skin disease – will be launched next month, Ella said.

The vaccine, a homologous live-attenuated LSD vaccine, has been developed by researchers from the National Center for Veterinary Type Culture and ICAR-National Research Center on Equine (ICAR-NRCE), Hisar, Haryana, in collaboration with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Veterinary Research.
