A 46-year-old Yakshagana artiste died when she was hit by a car at Kallabettu near Moodabidri in Dakshina Kannada district in the early hours of January 20.
Moodbidri police named the victim as Vaman Devadiga, a resident of Venur in Belthangadi taluk.
Police said Vaman, who was accompanying the Hiriyadka fair, was returning after performing a Yakshagana at Konki in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district. Vaman fell off his motorcycle after a head-on collision with a car near Kallabettu at around 6 am. He died on the spot. Two people in the car were injured and were admitted to a private hospital in Moodbidri.
Vamana was known for his roles of ‘Stree Vesha’ and ‘Raj Vesha’ in Yakshagana.
