SKM made Yadav’s resignation public at a press conference at Gurdwara Rakabganj

Social activist Yogendra Yadav has resigned from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha Coordination Committee, but has said he will continue to be a “soldier” of the farmers’ group. The SKM made Yadav’s resignation public at a press conference at Gurdwara Rakabganj here.

In the letter, Yadav has said that he will no longer be on the coordination committee of the SKM – an umbrella body of about 40 farmer unions – which led the farmers’ movement last year. “I will no longer be able to bear the responsibility of being a member of the coordinating committee of SKM. It is important that the energy of all movements and opposition political parties is involved to fight against the anti-farmer Modi government. I am in touch with the movements.

In his letter to the SKM, Yadav said, “Given my priority, it will not be possible for me to do justice to the responsibility of the SKM Coordination Committee.” He appealed to the farmers organization to relieve them of their responsibility. He insisted that being a member of the “Jai Kisan Andolan”, he would always be a “soldier” of the SKM. He said that Jai Kisan Andolan President Avik Saha would be available in his place to fulfill these responsibilities.

In October last year, the SKM suspended Yadav from the farmers’ body for a month after meeting the bereaved families of BJP workers killed during the Lakhimpur violence. The press conference was held after a meeting of the National General Assembly of the SKM which was attended by farmer leaders Darshan Pal, Rakesh Tikait, Hannan Mulla among others.

The SKM has also decided to hold rallies in each state on November 26 and submit memorandums of demands to the governors of those states, the SKM said in a statement. SKM will observe Black Day on October 3 to protest against the Lakhimapur Kheri massacre that took place on the same day in 2021.

“Everywhere in the country it should be observed as Black Day and the effigy of the central government will be burnt,” the statement said.
