Youth sentenced to six years for selling drugs

The Additional District Special Essential Commodities Court, Pudukottai, on Tuesday sentenced a man to six years’ rigorous imprisonment for drug peddling. On July 26, 2021, when the policemen of Tiruchy’s Gandhi Market Police Station were checking vehicles, they stopped a four wheeler on suspicion. Police found that M. Mohammed Haneefa, 42, a native of Pudukkottai district, was selling 21 kg of ganja. Police seized the drug and arrested the accused under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. After the trial, the court sentenced Mohammad Haneefa to six years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000.
