YouTube is making a big change to dislike videos, here’s why – Times of India

New Delhi: youtube has taken an important step to protect its creators from online harassment. owned by google video streaming The service has announced that it will make the dislike count private in both video and live streams.
The dislike button will still be placed next to the like button and people will still be allowed to dislike a video. But the dislike count will not be shown to the audience. However, creators will still be able to see the number of dislikes in the studio.

The company decided to make this new change after an experiment. YouTube conducted an experiment in July of this year to see if changes that disliked count could help protect creators better from harassment.
After this experiment, YouTube found that hiding the number of dislikes made people less likely to target a video’s dislike button to increase the number of dislikes. The data also showed that the new change also reduced attacking behavior.

  • If creators want to understand how their content is performing, they can still find out their exact dislike count in YouTube Studio.
  • Developers using the YouTube API for dislikes will no longer have access to public dislike data starting December 13th. End users will still be able to see dislike data related to their content on authenticated API requests.
  • Viewers can still dislike videos to further personalize and tune in to your recommendations, with the only change being that you won’t see the number of dislikes on the video.

“We’re excited to share more details about ‘New for You’ – a feature that helps you discover new creators and fresh content beyond the recommended videos you normally watch. ‘New for You’ ‘ is now available on the YouTube homepage on mobile, desktop, and TV devices,” the company said in a statement.

The company has started rolling out this new change from today (11 November).
