YS Sharmila taken into preventive custody after protests in Hyderabad

In a release, the YSRTP said Sharmila staged a “silent protest” near the statue of Rani Rudrama Devi on Tank Bund Road to celebrate International Women’s Day.

YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president YS Sharmila was taken into preventive custody on Wednesday for protesting here over alleged atrocities against women in the state.

Police broke up the protest for violating permission rules and Sharmila and other party workers were removed from the venue.

Sharmila was later shifted to her residence.

In a release, the YSRTP said Sharmila staged a “silent protest” near the statue of Rani Rudrama Devi on Tank Bund Road to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The YSRTP chief was detained during his “silent protest”.

Sharmila alleged that Telangana now holds a dubious record of registering the highest number of rape and kidnapping cases against women.

A police officer from Gandhi Nagar police station said the party workers were stopped for violating permission norms in connection with the protest. A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC.
