New Delhi: Asserting that India has been a victim of terrorism for decades, President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday said zero tolerance to all acts of terrorism, irrespective of its intent, will guide the international community in shaping the global counter-terrorism framework. According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement, the President emphasized that zero tolerance for all acts of terrorism, irrespective of their motivations, should be the guiding vision of the international community in shaping the global counter-terrorism framework. Welcoming the members of the delegation, President Murmu appreciated their gesture to begin their journey by paying homage to the victims of the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai. He said that India as the world’s largest democracy, one of the world’s most open and diverse societies has been a victim of terrorism for decades.

During the meeting, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), in her capacity as Chair of the CTC, briefed the President on the functioning of the UNSC CTC and its priorities. UN Security Council President and Gabon Foreign Minister Michael Moussa Adamo and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also briefly intervened, briefing the President on the key aspects of UN Security Council CTC deliberations and the way forward, as did that is mentioned in the declaration adopted in Delhi. Senior UN officials including Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office were also present on the occasion.
