Speaking in Parliament, he slammed BNP leaders and activists for still maintaining the “slavery attitude of Pakistan displayed by its founding father Zia”.

His remarks were in response to a Parliament talk given by BNP MLA Harunur Rashid, who opposed the recognition of ‘Joy Bangla’ as a national slogan.

Coming down heavily on Ziaur Rehman and his followers for churning out pro-Pakistan and anti-liberation narratives, Hasina said, “BNP does not believe in the spirit of liberation war.”

The Prime Minister accused Ziaur Rahman of murdering his father, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and his family in 1975, saying, “If he (Zia) is not involved, why did Mushtaq make him the chief of the army immediately? He instilled the spirit of freedom.” He forbade the historic ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan. He refused to utter the name of Bangabandhu.”
