Labor Welfare and Skill Development Minister CV Ganesan said here on Wednesday that around 1.04 lakh youth have been placed in private companies through 66 mega job fairs organized so far across the state.

The minister reviewed the arrangements being made for the mega job fair to be held at Seshayasi Institute of Technology campus in Tiruchi on November 5, he said, adding that more than 5.67 lakh youth had participated in the fairs organized so far. Last month, the number of placements through the mega job fair crossed the one lakh mark at a job fair in Chennai where Chief Minister MK Stalin handed over offer letters.

The Chief Minister has given instructions that such mega job fairs should be organized in all the 234 assembly constituencies of the state. “We are confident of finding placements for one lakh youth in a year through Mega Job Fair. We are hopeful that at least 5,000 youth will get employment at the job fair in Tiruchi on Saturday.

Mr Ganesan claimed that after the DMK came to power, there has been an increase in admissions in government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), thanks to the awareness created through the Naan Mudhalvan scheme launched by the Chief Minister. “Overall, 93.79 per cent seats have been filled in government ITIs and 100 per cent admissions have taken place in 51 ITIs,” he said.

The government recently issued orders to build houses for 10,000 construction workers at a cost of ₹400 crore. The enrollment of members in the welfare board for workers in the unorganized sector has also increased significantly. When DMK government came to power, distribution of various benefits like pension, family pension, educational assistance etc. to 1.07 lakh members through welfare boards was pending. He said that all these applications have been approved and welfare benefits have been distributed to about 4.25 lakh members of the welfare board under the present government.

Earlier, speaking in the review meeting with the officials, Shri Ganesan urged all the government departments and agencies to spread the work and work together to make the mega job fair a success.

Director of Employment and Training K Veera Raghava Rao informed about the arrangements being made for the employment fair.

Collector M. Pradeep Kumar said that more than 100 companies will participate in the job fair and at least 10,000 youth are expected to participate. He said that a special counter would be set up in the fair to find placements for persons with disabilities.
