10 crores for students returned from Ukraine in Kerala budget

A separate cell will help the students to obtain certificates that they may have lost in the midst of the Ukraine crisis.

Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala government in its budget has set aside Rs 10 crore for students returning to the state from Ukraine. A separate cell will also be created to help students retrieve certificates and important documents that may have been lost in the midst of the Ukraine crisis. The move is to facilitate the creation of a data bank on Kerala students studying abroad to continue their studies.

“Continuing their education is a big issue. Will their education continue online, or will some other measure be implemented. All this requires the help of the central government and government-to-government communication. This is not a simple matter. We are talking about 18,000 students across India, of which more than 2500 are from Kerala. We will need a detailed study and help from the Center to decide on their future.” Presenting the budget

He said, “Giving some seats to these students in our colleges is not an easy thing. We are not talking about 100 or 200 students. So Rs 10 crore and a special cell were allotted to facilitate help for them. Is.”

The budget began with a focus on price hikes and a possible increase in inflation amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

“With the intensification of the Russia-Ukraine war, the prices of commodities are rising rapidly in various corners of the world. The issue of inflation is emerging as a high priority issue for the state in 2022-23. The threat of inflation Very big. on the world even before the start of the Russo-Ukraine war”, KN Balagopal said during his speech.

Rs 2,000 crore has also been earmarked in the budget to avoid inflation and ensure food security.

While the budget focused on transitioning to higher education, building a knowledge economy and skill training in the state, it also set a net zero carbon emissions deadline by 2050 for Kerala.

Kerala, by virtue of its location, will be one of the most affected places globally by the effects of global warming and climate change. There are many such places in the state, which are below sea level.

The Finance Minister of Kerala has also targeted the central government over its decision to abolish GST compensation.

“We are not at all happy with the attitude and decision of the central government. As per their decision, they are going to stop the GST compensation till the end of June. This is disastrous. Almost all the states are demanding extension of the GST compensation period. Even BJP governments because this is a period of financial crisis for the entire country”, KN Balagopal told the media.

“Kerala is going to have a shortfall of about Rs 11,000 crore in GST compensation after June 2022. The central government is going to do away with the system of GST compensation,” the minister said.

Kerala has increased the green tax – a tax levied on vehicles older than 15 years – to 50 per cent, along with other additions, which is likely to generate an additional revenue of around Rs 10 crore. The one-time motor vehicle tax on motor cycles costing up to Rs 2 lakh has been increased by 1 percent. It is expected to generate revenue of around Rs 60 crore annually. Basic land tax is set to be increased in a fractional manner across all slabs, generating additional revenue of about Rs 80 crore. A one-time increase of 10 per cent in fair prices will be implemented in all categories. It is expected that this will generate additional revenue of about Rs 200 crore.

Rs 2 crore has also been allocated for the initiative to organize an individual ‘Global Peace Conference’ on nuclear disarmament and world peace.

“The threat of war and price rice is facing peace around the world. The Russo-Ukraine war has pushed the world towards a possible third world war with nuclear weapons. The possibility still cannot be completely ruled out.” Memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki compel us to work towards peace. It is not possible to give an excuse that ‘I am not ready to face’ and adopt a separatist attitude. Each of us has to have our own little one. Contribution has to be made. Make the first announcement in the budget of 2022- 23 towards this good gesture,” the minister said.
