The IIT Hyderabad campus has a total of 112 active coronavirus cases on the campus as of January 13. IIT said that it had allowed only doubly vaccinated students to visit the campus, so students who have been infected have been fully vaccinated.

IIT in its official notice said, “All the students have been isolated in different isolation zones. Almost all the reported cases are either mild or asymptomatic and are showing good signs of recovery within 4-5 days. Food and medicines are being distributed directly by the attendants with necessary COVID protocols to all the COVID affected students”.

The institute claims that it has adopted several ‘stringent’ measures to tackle the spread of COVID-19. It had asked only double-vaccinated students to attend the campus. IIT currently has 211 rooms for isolation. IIT said that it is planning to increase this number as per the requirement. The institute is following an isolation period of seven days from the date of testing. Students of the same pod, primary or secondary contact are being quarantined for two days.

“At present we have six well qualified medical doctors and nine staff nurses who are serving the IITH community on a 24×7 rotation basis. We have recruited four additional staff nurses specifically to monitor the Covid cases,” IIT clarified after reports of negligence surfaced. Two ambulances with ICU on wheels, shifting of cases to higher centers in all emergency situations. are available for 24×7, as and when required, the institute said.

All offline activities have been suspended and current semester studies have been shifted to online mode. Around 600 affected students have already vacated the campus. The vacated hostel blocks are likely to be converted into isolation facilities, if necessary, the institute said.
