Across Asia, India now holds the second-highest number of featured universities in the QS Subject Rankings, Nunzio Quacquarelli, President at QS Quacquarelli Symonds said. China has grabbed the first spot.
Indian universities have seen the highest performance improvement among all G20 nations, Nunzio Quacquarelli, President at QS Quacquarelli Symonds announced. This is a significant 14 per cent year-on-year improvement in their average ranking, he added. Across Asia, India now holds the second-highest number of featured universities in the QS Subject Rankings, he added. China has grabbed the first spot.
As per the data shared, 69 Indian universities have made it to the QS rankings out of which 47 are Institutes of Eminence (IoE). India now ranks across 44 out of the 55 QS Subject Rankings with standout performances in Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Business Studies, and Physics.
Furthermore, India has become one of the world’s most rapidly expanding research centres. From 2017 to 2022, its research output surged by an impressive 54 per cent, making it the world’s fourth-largest producer of research, Quacquarelli said in a LinkedIn post.
He also recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed about global higher education trends. “India’s HE progress on the global stage has undoubtedly been aided by visionary policies such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, spearheaded by Prime Minister Modi. I had the honour of meeting the Prime Minister to discuss global higher education trends,” he posted. (sic)
Quacquarelli congratulated all the universities, their administrators, faculty, and students for the “remarkable results.” He also added that the future of higher education in India looks bright, and “it is a privilege to watch this transformation unfold.” The QS rankings covered over 1,500 universities across 96 countries. It showcased excellence in 55 academic subjects and five faculty areas, he added.
Delhi University (DU) was recognised as the leading sustainable institution in India, securing the 220th spot globally in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay ranked 303 on the scale. This was followed by other IITs including IIT-Madras in the 344th position, IIT-Roorkee at 387th, and IIT-Delhi ranked 426th globally.
