16-year-old boy dies in Woodlawn shooting an hour after teen was shot and killed in Bronzeville: Chicago Police – Henry’s Club

CHICAGO (WLS) – Two teenage boys were shot and killed within an hour of each other on Tuesday in Chicago.

Chicago police said a 15-year-old boy was killed in a shooting in Bronzeville on Tuesday afternoon.

Chicago police said the teen was in the 3300-block of South Prairie Avenue around 3:15 p.m. when someone approached him, who pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Police said the teenager suffered a head injury and was taken to Komer Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, where he was declared brought dead.

Chicago police said two suspects were taken into custody shortly after 5 p.m. on 63rd Street near State Street during a traffic stop. they are being interrogated.

The deceased has been identified as Michael Brown. He was on his way home from his school, the Chicago Military Academy, where he was a freshman, at the time of the shooting.

A neighbor working from home at the time said he heard at least half a dozen gunshots.

“I just heard like pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. So I text my neighbor upstairs. I’m like, ‘Man that gun?’ And he said ‘yes,’ said Reginald Jones.
Police have not announced further details about the two men brought in for questioning, saying only that they believe they are linked to the shooting of the teen.

Less than an hour after that shooting, a second teen was shot and killed.

Investigators said a 16-year-old boy was standing at 62nd Street and South Greenwood Avenue in Woodlawn when he was shot in the head.

An interesting person from that shooting is also in custody.

Parents at the Chicago Military Academy said the thought of shooting a student nearby was disturbing.

Vanissa McGruder’s daughter knew Brown.

“She said she was having lunch with him before he left school; they were all over lunch, talking, having a good time being a teenager, having kids, and someone took his life. . They just took it,” McGruder said.

News of the shootings and Brown’s death spread rapidly throughout the school community.

“I was shocked. I see him every day, so it’s like you see someone every day, then to hear he was shot on his way home from school, it could have been me or my friends. It was me.” Sad,” said Makayla Sellers.

McGruder said more needs to be done to protect youth.

“I’m too scared to even let him take the bus home at the moment. So, I’m just, I’m really praying for his parents. I’m so upset about this; I’m nervous. I’m worried about this. Time to fear for your child,” she said.

The Chicago Military Academy said help is available for students who need it.
