17 killed, over 100 missing after heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Rains: Chittoor, Cuddapah, Kurnool and Anantapur districts have been affected.

In Andhra Pradesh, 17 people were killed and over 100 were washed away in the floods triggered by incessant rains. Hundreds of pilgrims are trapped in the severe floods in the scenery of the temple city of Tirupati.

The Ghat Road and the way to Tirumala Hills which houses the temple have been closed. The Swarnamukhi river on the outskirts of Tirupati has flooded and water bodies have been flooded. There are reports of many people being trapped in the floods. Three state transport buses are stuck and 12 could not be rescued.

National and state disaster relief teams have been deployed to handle the situation and rescue operations are in full swing. The floods have damaged roads at many places and affected rail, road and air traffic.

Rayalaseema region is the most affected. Chittoor, Cuddapah, Kurnool and Anantapur districts of the state have been affected.

The rain has not stopped since Thursday and the Cheyuru river is in spate. Annamayya irrigation project has also been affected.

Cuddapah airport will remain closed till November 25.
