17,000 Indian students likely to return to Australia soon, Pradhan raises issue

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday held a virtual meeting with Australian counterpart Alan Tudge and discussed the issue of 17,000 Indian students who want to return to Australia for education.

According to ANI sources, Pradhan raised the issue of over 17,000 Indian students who want to return to Australia for education during the meeting.

It is expected that soon the return of all these students will start.

During the meeting, the two ministers emphasized the commitment of both countries to support students moving to Australia at all levels.

The Australian Minister briefed him about the steps being taken by the Australian Government to facilitate the return of Indian students to Australia.

The two ministers “emphasized the commitment of both countries to support students going to Australia at all levels”.

Last week, Australia announced the reopening of international travel and the easing of border restrictions. The country has approved the India-made Kovidshield vaccine for travel in the country.

There was confusion about the return after coming to India during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now there is a positive news for the Indian students studying there as the Australian government has approved the Kovidshield vaccine.

Pradhan said on Twitter on Tuesday that he had a fruitful discussion with Tuj.

During the virtual discussions, they agreed to strengthen the growing Australia-India partnership in higher education, particularly in two-way student mobility, teacher exchanges, applied research and other areas of mutual priority.

He tweeted, “@AlanTudgeMP also detailed Australia’s preparedness, including a student arrival pilot for the return of international and Indian students to Australia. Indians visiting Australia at all levels, both India and Australia Committed to supporting students.”

Pradhan said that there is a lot of potential to take forward the cooperation between New Delhi and Canberra in the field of education and skills.

Pradhan also reaffirmed that the National Education Policy, 2020 will play a vital role in realizing the aspirations and future needs of our youth and making India a global knowledge hub. He further said that there is significant potential for further cooperation between India and Australia across the education and skills spectrum.

Minister Pradhan and his Australian counterpart agreed to strengthen the growing Australia-India partnership in higher education with emphasis on two-way student mobility, teacher exchanges, applied research and other areas of mutual priority.
