18 dogs poisoned in Andhra, killer says he obeyed village head’s orders

Hyderabad:

Eighteen stray dogs were poisoned to death in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district on Saturday.

Andhra Pradesh Police has registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against AK Veerbabu, who claimed that the sarpanch and secretary of Chebrole village had ordered him to kill dogs by giving him a lethal injection.

Following the death of the dogs, animal rights groups have demanded swift action against the village heads.

Earlier this year, over 100 stray dogs had died in Telangana’s Siddipet district. The video of the carcasses of dogs lying in the pit went viral on social media, causing widespread ruckus.
