19 new faces in BJP’s candidate list for Himachal Pradesh assembly elections

State BJP president Suresh Kashyap said in a statement on Wednesday evening that out of the 62 candidates announced in the first list, 19 are fresh faces and are trying their luck for the first time.

In Himachal Pradesh, 19 greenhorns are trying their luck as BJP candidates in the assembly elections to be held on November 12. The party released its first list of 62 candidates on Wednesday morning. There are 68 assembly constituencies in the state. State BJP president Suresh Kashyap said in a statement on Wednesday evening that out of the 62 candidates announced in the first list, 19 are fresh faces and are trying their luck for the first time.

He said five doctors and a retired IAS officer were among those who gave tickets to the BJP. Dr. Janak Raj, Senior Medical Superintendent of IGMC Hospital, Shimla has been given ticket from Bharmour. Two allopathic doctors Rajesh Kashyap and Anil Dhiman have been fielded from Solan and Bhoranj.

Similarly, Ayurvedic doctors Rajiv Saijal and Rajiv Bindal have also been given tickets. Retired IAS officer JR Katwal is trying his luck again from Jhanduta seat.

Five women are also included in the first list of BJP candidates. Indira Kapoor has been given ticket from Chamba for the first time. Cabinet minister Sarveen Chaudhary is contesting again from Shahpur seat, MLA Reena Kashyap from Pachhar and Rita Dhiman from Indora seat. This time also, former candidate from Rohru, Shashi Bala has been given ticket. The BJP is hopeful that it will repeat its government in this hill state. The BJP currently has 43 members and the Congress 22 in the 68-member assembly. There are two independents and one CPI(M) MLA here.

The notification for the state elections was issued on October 17 and the last date for filing nominations is October 25. Scrutiny of papers will be done on October 27 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers will be October 29. The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on November 12 while the counting of votes will take place on December 8.
