2 crore ransom call to Kutch industrialist Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot : A prominent industrialist of Raw but settled Dubai For the past 18 years, complaints were filed against three men for allegedly torturing them and threatening to kill their daughter with a demand of extortion of Rs 2 crore. His daughter handles a part of the victim’s family business in Gandhidham, Kutch.
In his complaint to Gandhidham Police, Sanjay PoddarS. promoter of poddar International Private Limited, named Bharat Jalu, Jayantilal alias Jaisukh Nathaki And a man named Irani who lives in Muscat.
Poddar handles the TMT bar and scrapyard business in Gandhidham, while his daughter manages a holiday resort and a school there. Poddar often visits Gandhidham for business purposes. He lives in Dubai with his wife and son.
A few years ago, Nathaki became acquainted with Poddar through his maternal uncle Lalji, who had been working with the industrialist for the past 18 years. Nathki used to work as a driver in Dubai. Jalu and Irani were also in Dubai and Muscat respectively doing some business there and got acquainted with Poddar through Nathaki.
Police said the businesses of Jalu and Irani collapsed during the Covid-19 pandemic, while Nathki also lost his job as a driver.
Jalu and Nathaki returned to their native place at Keshod and Porbandar respectively and so did Nathaki.
In dire need of money, the accused requested Poddar to help him get work or some business in Gandhidham. He also asked for financial help, but he refused.
As they did not get a favorable response from Poddar, Jalu and Nathki decide to extort Rs 2 crore from him. They sent messages threatening to defame him and even filed an application for CID crime in January 2019, alleging that Poddar was resorting to dishonest business practices. However, after recording Poddar’s statement, the police found these allegations to be false.
After Poddar blocked Jalu’s number on their phone, the accused pair enlisted the help of Irani, who started thrashing her with threatening messages from Muscat.
Jalu and Nathki, aware of Poddar’s thriving business, allegedly threatened to kill their daughter.
On August 11, Poddar came to Gandhidham and on Thursday night, after consulting the family members, lodged a complaint.
The accused were booked for threatening, criminal conspiracy and attempt to extort.
