2 workers killed in fire at sugar refinery in Andhra Pradesh

Fire in Andhra Pradesh: One laborer died on the spot, while the other died in the hospital.

Two workers were killed and at least nine others were injured when a fire broke out at a sugar refinery at Vakalapudi near Kakinada town in Andhra Pradesh on Friday afternoon.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire broke out in the conveyor belt of the packing unit, possibly due to an electrical short circuit, police said.

One laborer died on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The condition of one of the nine injured workers is said to be critical and has been admitted to a private hospital in Kakinada for treatment.

The other injured are being treated at various hospitals in the city, police said.

Kakinada Rural MLA K Kannababu and District Superintendent of Police M Rabindranath Babu visited the sugar plant and supervised the rescue operation.
