20,181 fresh Covid cases reported in Delhi, 19.6% positivity rate

National capital New Delhi recorded 20,181 fresh Covid-19 cases on Saturday, along with 11,869 cured and 7 deaths. The city’s positivity rate has gone up to 19.6%. The active cases in the national capital stood at 48,178, and the city recorded 16% more Covid cases as compared to yesterday.

So far, no death related to Omicron has been reported in the national capital. Health Minister Satyendar Jain had earlier today predicted over 20,000 cases in the city. Jain said that most of the patients who died of coronavirus infection on Thursday had comorbidities.

To contain the spread of COVID-19 in the city, a weekend curfew was imposed across the city. Also, shops will open on odd-even basis, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday.

“This time the hospitalizations are less and the severity of the infection is also less. About 20,000 cases will be reported in Delhi today with a positivity rate of 19 per cent,” he told reporters.

Stating that the city government is well prepared, he said that the infrastructure has been beefed up keeping in mind the high number of COVID cases.
