Volvo Cars India is set to launch two petrol mild-hybrid models in the country on October 19, 2021. These models are likely to be petrol variants of the S90 sedan and XC60 SUV. The Chinese-owned Swedish automaker has blocked invites to your date with the media saying – “We are ready for the future, let us show you what it looks like”. In fact, the brand recently released the first teaser of the new mild hybrid XC60 on its official Twitter account, confirming its imminent arrival in the Indian market.

The carmaker is one of a growing crop of companies planning to abandon fossil fuel vehicles and go completely electric in the next few years. In fact it is said that by 2030 its cars will be electrified. As far as the Indian market is concerned, the brand had earlier confirmed that it is planning to double its sales volume in the next two years. The company has already said that it will introduce an all-electric car in India every year from 2021 onwards.

The new Volvo XC60 is expected to get subtle design changes, including a new grille, new front bumper, pair of new alloy wheels and new exterior colours. The SUV is also likely to feature the latest Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) system with automatic braking and collision avoidance, pilot assist function. It is also likely to get a new Android-powered touchscreen infotainment system packed with built-in Google apps and services along with the brand’s ‘Digital Services’ package. The carmaker has already confirmed a mild-hybrid petrol powertrain, which could be a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit. However, the exact location of the tune is as yet unknown.

On the other hand, the Volvo S90 petrol mild-hybrid model is also expected to come with subtle design changes. Like the XC90, the S90 luxury saloon will also be a petrol mild-hybrid model with the same 2.0-litre petrol mill with 48-V mild-hybrid technology. The carmaker is also planning to launch the XC40 Recharge electric SUV in the first quarter of 2022. This is the company’s first all-electric offering and will come to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
