last time i drove jeep compass Trailhawk, I called it a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and you can see Wait Very. However a lot has changed in the last few years. But you know we were excited then and we are excited now because the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is back which means there is a demand for the car and it makes us happy that an exciting off-road capable car is back in the market !
So let’s understand it step by step and start with the design.
jeep compass trailhawk design
The first thing you’ll notice is the ‘Trail Rated’ badge that gives a brief overview of the car. Now there are a few changes that we see here and most of them we have already seen on the Compass facelift. So, you are familiar with the front end. You get good looking LED DRLs and a new face. From afar, it still looks like a compass, but comes closer and you’ll notice that the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned to ensure that the approach and departure angles are enhanced.
Approach, departure and break-over angles have seen improvement, which basically means that the car is now better equipped for any terrain thrown at it.
Jeep Compass Trailhawk Off-Road Capability
And we threw a few rocks in the way of it, of course before we did all we could to change the mode to rock. And it can be done with a simple touch of a button. Thanks to the Select Terrain system that lets you do all of that very easily. There are 2 more modes, Snow and Sand/Mud and of course, Auto. The great thing here is that Jeep has gone from a rotary dial to just a quick toggle switch and that makes life easier too, thus retaining the premiumness of the SUV.
Of course, when it comes to off-roading you have to take things slow but clearly, the Compass Trailhawk had everything right. The 20:1 crawl ratio really gives the Trailhawk a significant advantage and the ability to climb like any other car in the segment. And the 9-speed automatic really shines here too, providing consistent power to the wheels and ensuring that torque delivery gets you where you want to go.
Now that transmission is made in-house, but the design is carried over from the ZF and it just shines when you take the off-beat track.
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk On-Road Performance
But how does it perform on normal roads? Well, the engine is a familiar one, which we have also seen on the Jeep Compass facelift, a 2-litre diesel that churns out 168 bhp and has 350 Nm of torque on offer. Now, the gearbox is a bit sluggish during initial acceleration, so nothing until the turbocharger hits about 2000-2200 rpm and that’s hard. There’s no sports mode that you can shift to, so while gearshifts are smooth, we’re lacking when it comes to initial acceleration. As far as ride and handling are concerned, the revised suspension handles the revised ride height well and it feels great even on the tarmac. Bumps on the road are handled smoothly but yes, there is a bit of kickback on the big suspension facing you.
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Cabin
But did you know, the cabin is absolutely sublime. It carries the same layout as the facelift version and hence carries all the gizmos and is a major upgrade from 2019. You can’t miss the 10.1-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system that is basically central to that premium, luxurious experience! You also get wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. There is also a 360-degree camera which comes in handy when going off-road.
The Compass Trailhawk basically gets all the features from the S(O) version of the line-up, so yes, there’s a panoramic sunroof, integrated navigation and voice commands and of course, it’s big on safety.
2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk Price
0 notes
We don’t have the price of the Compass Trailhawk right now, but from what we know from experience it will be above ₹30 lakhs. So, yes, it’s not going to be cheap, but if you take it off-roading like fish in the water, then yes, it should be your choice. Others are more capable, yes, but thrilling? No, there are very few cars that come close to what the Trailhawk has to offer but as an overall package, it is difficult to find a perfect match.
