23 IITs to organize R&D fairs to make industries better aware of their capabilities

New Delhi: All the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will organize an R&D fair to make the industries aware of their capabilities and technology readiness. The fair will be organized in November.

The education ministry has asked IITs to do the same during the meeting with IITs. “The fair will create better understanding and create awareness among the Indian industry on the capabilities and high technology readiness level of the IITs,” the ministry said.

During the meeting, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that this R&D fair “will create an enabling environment for cutting edge research in the areas envisaged in the NEP. Collaborative by 23 IITs with Indian industries on development of innovations for Indian and global markets”. The initiative will bring ease of living and increase investment by alumni and industries in future research into emerging technologies.

The Minister has suggested to prioritize the focus areas for thematic sessions on spatial research, integration of traditional knowledge in energy systems, communication equipment, waste management, structural and architecture.

Ten themes have been identified in focus areas and 72 projects brought out by 23 IITs on these topics will be shortlisted by a committee. After scrutiny, these projects will be presented to the audience in a two-day mega event.

The audience of the event will include participants from Indian industries and global institutions, faculty from various centrally funded technical institutes, scientists from Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Council of India and India. Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), students and research scholars.

To ensure this, some of the older IITs organize industry fairs every year to showcase their R&D activities and product development pipeline to the industries.
