3 killed in massive fire in West Bengal’s Maheshtala

Three people were killed in a massive fire at a firecracker unit in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, officials said on March 21.

He told that the fire broke out on Monday evening at Putkhali Mandalpara in Mahestala, adjacent to Kolkata.

Fire Minister Sujit Bose said that the owner of the firecracker unit, Bharat Hati, has been arrested. PTI,

The three deceased have been identified as Bharat’s wife Lipika Hati (52), their son Shantanu (22) and their neighbor Aalo Das (17), officials said.

He was rescued in a critical condition and was declared brought dead on being taken to Vidyasagar Hospital in Behala, he said.

The minister said, “It is too early to say whether the fireworks unit was operating with a valid license or not. Forensic experts will visit the spot and collect samples for testing. Whoever is responsible for this tragedy will not be spared.” “

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and the matter is being probed, officials said.
