3 out of 4 IPS officers dropped by Tapan Deka as IB director were thrown out of intelligence agency

New Delhi: Three of the four top Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers supersession When he was appointed IB director last month by batchmate Tapan Deka, he has been thrown out of the bureau.

The three officers belong to the 1988 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and were serving as Special Directors in the IB.

According to government orders obtained by ThePrint, two of them – Amitabh Ranjan and Manoj Lal – have been sent back to their cadre, while the third Manoj Yadava has been posted as Director General (Investigation) in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Is. ,

The order for Ranjan’s premature repatriation came on Monday, while Lal and Yadav were thrown out of the IB last week. Lal is an AGMUT-cadre officer, while Yadav is from Haryana cadre and Ranjan belongs to Tripura cadre. Lal has been posted as Director General of Police (DG) in Puducherry, while Ranjan is yet to get a posting in his cadre.

The Modi government has enlisted as DGs at least eight officers of the 1988 batch, who were serving in the IB for years. It has also shortlisted 24 officers from the batch for the rank of Director General of Police or equivalent in Central Government organisations.

IB Director Deka is junior (in terms of age and rank) to four 1988 batch officers – Anish Dayal Singh, Manoj Yadav, Manoj Lal and Amitabh Ranjan.

Prior to his promotion, Deka also served as Special Director in IB. Anish Dayal Singh of Manipur cadre is still working in this post.

Following Deka’s promotion, the four officers sought “respectable rehabilitation” in other police organizations.

Three vacancies at the DG level in central government agencies – in the National Investigation Agency, the National Police Academy and the Sashastra Seema Bal – were all filled last month.
