Thrissur (Kerala):
Three members of a family died today when their car fell into a river at Arattupuzha in Thrissur district of Kerala. Police said the family was on their way to attend a wedding function at a nearby resort.
Rajendra Babu (66), his wife Sandhya (62) and their grandson Samarth (6) died in the accident while walking on the road beside the river, he said.
A police officer said it is believed that the driver – the 30-year-old son of an elderly couple – accelerated when he sensed the car was about to stop on a slight incline, and that the vehicle accelerated due to automatics and passed Fell into the river taking a signpost with him.
The couple’s son Sarath Babu was the only survivor in the incident, he said.
The others were unconscious when they were pulled out of the water by the locals, but they died by the time they reached the hospital, the official said.
