Nablus, Palestinian Territories: At least 30 Palestinians were wounded in heavy fighting on Tuesday, two days after deadly fighting in Gaza was halted by a ceasefire, as Israeli troops raided a home in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
“Israeli forces and special forces surround the home of a wanted man in Nablus. Firing continues,” the military said in a statement.
At least 30 Palestinians were injured and at least one was in critical condition, according to red Crescent,
An AFP correspondent said Palestinians opened fire with Israeli forces in the old city of Nablus.
Clashes broke out with Israeli forces in other parts of Nablus after Palestinians pelted stones at soldiers.
Heavy gunfire was heard from the ongoing conflict, as dozens of Israeli military vehicles blocked traffic in one of the West Bank’s largest cities.
Israeli security forces have conducted almost daily operations in the West Bank in recent months, with a focus on militants Islamic Jihadi group.
According to the military, on Friday, Israel launched “pre-emptive” aerial and artillery bombardments on Islamic Jihad positions in the Gaza Strip, prompting militants in the coastal enclave to fire more than a thousand rockets in retaliation.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, an Egyptian-mediated ceasefire on Sunday ended three days of intense fighting that killed 46 Palestinians, 16 of them children, and wounded 360.
Israel insists that some children and other civilians who counted in the Palestinian toll were killed by Islamic Jihad rockets that subsided or misfired.
Prime Minister Yair Lapid said on Monday that the bombing dealt “a devastating blow to the enemy”, and “successfully targeted the entire senior military command of Islamic Jihad in Gaza.”
Islamic Jihad said 12 of its members had been killed, including Commander Taisir al-Jabri and Khalid Mansoor,
