In a special operation against gutkha, Kallakurichi district police arrested 32 persons and recovered 40 kg of gutka and banned tobacco products from their possession. According to a press release, following the instructions of Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque, special teams conducted surprise raids at Chinna Salem, Sankarapuram and Kallakurichi and arrested 32 people.
Police said that special raids were conducted from December 7 to 9. The police, along with the officials of the Revenue Department, also sealed the shops of 14 people selling banned tobacco products. The accused were produced in a local court and taken on remand.
During special raids in Villupuram district, two persons were arrested and 35 kg of gutka product recovered from their possession.
