At least 36 migrant laborers from Jharkhand are stranded in Tajikistan for the past two months and the state government is making efforts to ensure their safe return, an official said.

They said they left for the Central Asian country on December 19 last year after being promised good salaries by the agents of the firm operating in India.

The laborers are residents of Hazaribagh, Bokaro and Giridih districts.

Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahai said PTI They have received complaints from the relatives of the trapped workers that they were forced to lead a life similar to that of bonded labourers.

Ms. Sahai said, “Based on the complaints, I have informed the State Migrant Cell to take up the issue with the concerned authorities, and find ways for the release and safe return of the laborers to their native places at the earliest Is.” ,
