4.8 magnitude earthquake hits Manipur

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Manipur, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed on July 17.

The earthquake had a depth of 94 km and occurred 66 km east-southeast of Moirang, Manipur.

The timing of the earthquake was at 11:42 pm on Saturday night.

NCS tweeted, “Earthquake of magnitude: 4.8, 16-07-2022, 23:42:48 IST, Latitude: 24.25 & Long: 94.37, Depth: 94 km, Location: 66 km ESE, Moirang, Manipur, India Happened.”

Earlier on July 5, Assam had an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude on the Richter scale. The depth of the earthquake was 35 km which came at 11:03 am.

NCS is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring the earthquake activity in the country.
