4.87 crore income tax returns filed till Sunday evening, deadline looms

A day before the deadline for filing ITR for the financial year 2021-22 ends, the department on Saturday said over 4.87 crore income tax returns have been filed till late evening.

The department issued a public message through its official Twitter handle asking taxpayers, individuals at large and the salaried class to file their Income Tax Return (ITR) before the due date.

It said over 4.52 crore ITRs for assessment year 2022-23 have been filed till July 29, while over 35 lakh ITRs were filed till 6 pm on Saturday.

The CBDT also issued an order stating that Aayakar Sahayata Kendras (ASKs) or Aayakar Sahayata Kendras across the country shall remain open on Sundays and “additional receipt counters, wherever required, to facilitate the filing of tax returns by the taxpayers”. will be opened.” “Hope you have filed yours too! Officials said the finance ministry and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which formulates policy for the tax department, are continuously monitoring the process of filing ITR.

A senior official told PTI that a ‘war room’ of technical experts working on the portal and the CBDT’s social media team collecting personal and public feedback on the filing are working together 24×7.

The official said that the issues related to the e-filing portal are being addressed promptly and answers are being provided to each and every query raised by the taxpayers.

When asked about extension of ITR filing deadline to July 31 through demands being made on social media and representations sent to CBDT, officials said they are looking to ensure that “filing by the deadline” Be done smoothly and they have nothing else on their mind. Immediately.”

As per the updated data till July 28, around 4.05 crore ITRs were filed and out of these the number of returns verified/verified by taxpayers was 3.09 crore.

Of these, 2.80 crore returns were processable and of this 2.41 crore or 86 per cent were processed, the data said.

E-filing of ITR by various categories of taxpayers is done on the web portal – “http://incometax.gov.in”.

About 5.89 crore ITRs were filed last time till the extended due date of December 31, 2021 or during the financial year 2020-21.
