4-year data science degree from IIT-Madras for all – Times of India

New Delhi: If you studied English and Mathematics in class X and completed class XII, what about a four-year degree in programming and data science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and that too cut-throat JEE without competing. advanced)? IIT announced that its BSc in Programming and Data Science now comes with a four-year BSc degree option with multiple entry and exit options. And there is no age or geographical limit to pursue this program. Although the syllabus will be given online, the exam will be conducted in-person at 116 centers across 111 cities in India. IIT-M has also opened examination centers in UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Sri Lanka. IIT will also facilitate internship and placement for students completing up to diploma level.

According to IITs, the sought after candidates, this program is now being offered as a four-year degree course and is designed to provide students with multiple entry and exit options where the learner can earn a certificate, diploma or degree can be obtained. Students can undertake an eight-month apprenticeship or a project with companies or research institutions.

Candidates who are currently in class XII can also apply and secure admission in the programme. The admitted students will start the program after successfully completing their class XII. Students of any stream can enroll. And the classes are conducted online.

Currently, there are over 13,000 students enrolled in the program, with the largest number of students being from Tamil Nadu, followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

It is a highly job-oriented program in a field where the demand for skilled resources is high.

Students in this program will learn to manage data, visualize patterns to gain managerial insights, model uncertainties and build models that help make forecasts for effective business decision making.

Professor Andrew Thangaraj, Professor in charge of the programme, said: “Since data science is a multidisciplinary domain, this IIT-M degree is open to students from all backgrounds. Students who are studying commerce or humanities can also pursue a degree from IIT Madras. Since content delivery is online and in-person exams are held on Sundays, this degree can also be obtained by attending an on-campus degree or while working full-time.

According to IITs, the program will directly benefit students from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, for whom attending JEE coaching classes would be a significant hurdle. The program also offers scholarships of up to 100% for deserving students in financial need.
