42,909 new covid cases, 380 deaths reported in India in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India saw a one-day rise of 42,909 new COVID-19 infections, taking the total number of cases to 3,27,37,939, while the number of active cases rose to 3,27,37,939, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday. The increase was recorded for the sixth consecutive day. .

The death toll has risen to 4,38,210 with 380 fresh deaths, according to the data updated at 8 am.

The number of active cases has increased to 3,76,324 and it accounts for 1.15 per cent of the total infections. The health ministry said that the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 97.51 per cent.

It said the active cases in the country has increased by 7,766 cases in a 24-hour period.

The ministry said that 14,19,990 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far in the country to 52,01,46,525.

The daily positivity rate has been recorded as 3.02 percent. After 35 days it is above 3 per cent.

The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 2.41 percent. According to the Health Ministry, it has been below three percent for the last 66 days.

The number of people who have been cured of the disease has risen to 3,19,23,405, while the death rate stands at 1.34 per cent, the data said.

In all, 63.43 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been given till Monday morning under the nationwide immunization drive, the ministry said.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on 7 August, 30 lakh on 23 August, 40 lakh on 5 September and 50 lakh on 16 September last year.

It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October, 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and one crore on 19 December last year.

India crossed two crore cases on May 4 and three crore cases on June 23.

The 380 new people include 131 from Maharashtra and 75 from Kerala.

A total of 4,38,210 deaths have been reported in the country so far, including 1,37,157 from Maharashtra, 37,278 from Karnataka, 34,878 from Tamil Nadu, 25,080 from Delhi, 22,818 from Uttar Pradesh, 20,541 from Kerala and 18,423 from West Bengal.

The health ministry said that over 70 per cent of the deaths were due to co-morbidities.

“Our data is being collated with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website. State wise distribution of data is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
