A total of 47 candidates are in the fray for the Munugode assembly bypoll to be held on November 3, after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ends on October 17. However, the fight is expected to be between the three main political parties- the ruling TRS. , Congress and BJP.

The BJP has fielded Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy from this seat. Reddy quit the Congress in August and joined the saffron party. He was the sitting MLA of the constituency and his resignation necessitated a by-election. TRS, which recently changed its name to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has fielded former MLA Kusukuntala Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate.

Congress has made Palvai Shrawanthi its candidate for the by-election. The Munugode by-poll has acquired importance as its results will give the winner an edge ahead of the assembly elections due next year.

There is already a vigorous campaign by the three main parties to woo the voters. Counting of votes will take place on November 6.
