Central Water Commission issues first flood warning for the third time in the current water year

Water Resources Department officials on Sunday lifted all 70 gates up to a height of 9 feet to release about 5.06 lakh cusecs of surplus water from the Prakasam barrage into the sea.

According to the information, after receiving about 5.10 lakh cusecs of flood water from the upper catchment area, the water level in the barrage crossed 12 feet. To maintain the barrage level of 12 feet, the authorities released 2,827 cusecs into the canals and 5.06 lakh cusecs into the sea.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued a flood warning for the first time for the third time in the current water year.

About 5.10 lakh cusecs of flood water from the Pulichintala project reached here, including 9,200 cusecs from the Paleru tributary and 15,000 cusecs from the Kesar. Pulichintala Project officials released about 4.80 lakh cusecs of flood water coming from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.

Krishna District Collector Ranjit Basha has urged people living in the villages along the banks of the river below the Prakasam barrage to be vigilant.

Control rooms have been opened at the District Collectorate at Machilipatnam and Revenue Divisional Offices at Machilipatnam and Vuyuru to provide assistance to the people in case of any emergency.
