According to FADA, sales of passenger vehicles witnessed a growth of 204% on YoY basis for May 2022. Which are the best selling cars in India last month? Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has retained the top spot with 16,814 units sold last month as compared to 2,086 units sold in May 2021, a growth of 706%. The Wagon R is available in two engine options – a 1.0-litre next-gen K-series dual jet, dual VVT engine petrol and a 1.2-litre advanced K-series dual jet, dual VVT petrol.

The Tata Nexon sub-4-metre SUV registered sales of 14,614 units as against 6,439 units sold during the same period last year. The SUV registered a growth of 127% on a YoY basis in May 2022. Tata Motors recently introduced Nexon EV Max in the Indian market as Nexon EV has been popular among Indian buyers.
Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Suzuki Swift ranked third in terms of sales in India with sales of 14,133 units in May 2022 as compared to sales of 7,005 units in May 2021. The hatchback registered a growth of 102% overall.

Maruti’s premium hatchback, Baleno last month registered sales of 13,970 units as against 4,803 units in May 2021, registering a year-on-year growth of 191%. The company has introduced the 2022 Maruti Baleno at a price of Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (both prices ex-showroom) in February 2022.

Maruti Suzuki Alto secured the fifth position with sales of 12,933 units last month as against 3,220 units sold in the month of May 2021. The hatchback registered a year-on-year growth of 302%. However, the demand for Alto declined significantly due to rising demand for B-segment cars.
