5 districts changed school timings due to heat wave in Rajasthan Jaipur News – Times of India

Jaipur: Jaipur district administration has modified school time In view of the unbearable heat, 7:30 am to 11 am for classes 1-8 with immediate effect. This order will be applicable to both government and private schools. The administration has said that the order will not have any effect on the class 8 board examinations. Classes 9 to 12 will run as per school timings.
This comes a day after Education Minister BD Kalla empowered district magistrates (DMs) to call on school timings in view of the scorching heat. Earlier during the day, the DMs of Ajmer and Sikar directed schools to be closed on or before noon. Churu also decided to change the time because of Lu.
Several government schools in rural areas have urged the education department to declare summer vacation as prolonged power cuts make it unbearable for students to spend 4-5 hours without fans.
Ajmer DM Ansh Deep has directed the schools to complete the classes by noon. “The order is applicable to both government and private schools and till further orders are issued,” Deep said. Similarly, Jodhpur local administration has also announced revision of timings from 7:30 am to 11 am for classes 1 to 8.
The state is in the grip of heat and the temperature has touched 45 degree Celsius. Even the health department has issued an advisory to stay indoors unless there is unavoidable work outside.
Being a Saturday, very few local administrations decided on the revised school timings. It is expected that by Sunday evening almost all districts will pass similar orders.
Rajasthan Teachers Association (Shekhawat) spokesperson Prakash Mishra said that running classes without electricity in hundreds of schools amounted to harassment. “Imagine schools with fans being forced to drink hot water in bad weather. It is not only unbearable for children to call them, but also inhumane,” Mishra said.
