50 cases registered during raids on oil shops in Andhra Pradesh

Officials of Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E), Legal Metrology and Food Safety departments on Wednesday raided wholesale and retail edible oil traders across the state.

Director General Vigilance and Enforcement Shankh Brath Bagchi said raids were conducted at over 250 places as the teams verified the stock, brand, weight and prices of oil packets. The teams registered 50 cases against the traders for various violations. The raids were conducted at Cuddapah, Tirupati, Eluru, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kurnool and a few other places, Mr Bagchi said.

“More than 25 teams led by DSP, food inspectors, civil supplies officers and legal metrology inspectors participated in the raids,” the DG said, adding that the raids would continue.

He warned that strict action would be taken against traders bidding to cheat customers by selling fake brands.
