502 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in Tamil Nadu, one died

The number of persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 crossed 500 in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. While 502 persons tested positive for the infection, one person succumbed to the infection in the state.

An 84-year-old man from Tiruppur, who had diabetes and systemic hypertension, was admitted with COVID-19 positivity on April 5 at the Government Medical College Hospital, Tiruppur, with fever and difficulty in breathing. He passed away on 13 April due to COVID-19 pneumonia.

Among those who tested positive for the infection were nine persons who had returned from abroad. This included two persons each from UAE, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. In Chennai, 136 persons tested positive for the infection. A total of 52 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Kanniyakumari, while 42 were reported in Coimbatore, 28 in Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur and 27 in Salem.

A total of 329 people were discharged. The total number of active cases rose to 3,048, of which Chennai had the highest number of active cases at 857. Chengalpattu had 245 active cases, Coimbatore 236 and Kanyakumari 210. A total of 5,869 samples were tested.
