6 in Gujarat, 0 in Himachal Pradesh: AAP claims victory with ‘national party status’

The Aam Aadmi Party which was earlier claiming to win the Gujarat elections had to be content with 6 seats with the tag of ‘National Party’ to celebrate. Several old videos of AAP leader Kejriwal surfaced on social media where he was heard claiming a clear majority in the state of Gujarat.

As far as Himachal Pradesh is concerned, AAP failed to get even a single seat in the assembly elections. AAP was contesting on 67 seats but could not open the account.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said he is thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping make AAP a national party.

AAP, which already has its own government in Delhi and Punjab, managed to win 6 seats in the BJP bastion state of Gujarat.

In a video message, Kejriwal said though AAP did not win many seats in Gujarat, the votes it got helped it get national party status.

He said, “I am thankful to the people of Gujarat for helping us achieve the status of a national party. Very few parties have achieved this status and now we are one of them. Ours is only a 10-year-old party.”

AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said during a press conference, “AAP managed to win national party status In only 10 years. This is the pace of development of this party. We got around 35 lakh votes in Gujarat. All the leaders worked hard and visited the rural areas of Gujarat. Gujarat is considered to be BJP’s home turf, yet AAP managed to garner 35 lakh votes.

Earlier today, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had tweeted, “AAP is becoming a national party today because of the vote given by the people of Gujarat. Politics of education and health is making its mark for the first time in the country.” Congratulations to the whole country for this.”
