93% of teaching staff, 87% of non-teaching staff in schools fully or partially vaccinated: Govt

More than 93 per cent teaching staff and 87 per cent non-teaching staff in schools across the country have been either fully or partially vaccinated against COVID-19, with four states achieving 100 per cent coverage, to Lok Sabha Was informed on Monday. Federation Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in response to a written query, presented state-wise data on the immunization status of teaching and non-teaching staff working in schools.

Delhi has achieved 98.45 percent vaccination in teaching and 98.40 percent in non-teaching staff. According to the data, the states where 100% teaching and non-teaching staff have been vaccinated are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Tirupura.

In terms of state-wise breakup, Uttar Pradesh has seen 91.9 per cent immunization among teaching and 88.3 per cent among non-teaching staff; Uttarakhand has achieved 95.2% of teaching and 95.25 percent of non-teaching staff, and Odisha has achieved 95.65 percent of teaching and 93.29 percent of non-teaching staff.

In Kerala, 97.39 percent of teaching staff and 97.84 percent of non-teaching staff and 98.9 percent of teaching staff and 96.6 percent of non-teaching staff in Bihar have been vaccinated.

Meanwhile, many states still have low vaccination coverage among non-teaching workers. For example, 63.85 per cent of non-teaching staff have been vaccinated in Andhra Pradesh, while 96.42 per cent among teaching staff have been vaccinated. In Manipur, 70.34 per cent non-teaching staff received at least one vaccine as against 80.84 per cent among teaching staff and 68.06 per cent non-teaching staff is covered against 78.94 per cent teaching staff in Haryana.
