A ball of fire erupted after a fighter plane crashed in Spain, video goes viral

The fighter aircraft was undergoing training for a flying display at the time of the accident.

An F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed at Zaragoza Air Base, about 300 km from Spain’s capital Madrid, after which the aircraft caught fire. A video of this is becoming very viral on Twitter, after which a fireball is seen rising in the sky after the plane crashed.

The Spanish Ministry of Defense said in a tweet that the pilot had ejected from the fighter jet. He was taken to the hospital and now his life is not in danger.

According to the Associated Press, Zaragoza Air Base is located about 16 kilometers from the city. It comes under the Air and Space Force of Spain.

Spain’s public news agency EFE reported that the fighter plane was training for a flying exhibition when the incident happened.

The McDonnell Douglas F-18 Hornet that crashed belonged to Ala 15, an executive unit of Spain’s Air Combat Command. The F-18 Hornet entered service in Spain in 1986.

The F/A-18 McDonnell Douglas was the first aircraft built with a carbon fiber loader and also the first tactical jet fighter to use digital flood-by-wire flight controls.
