Massachusetts on Wednesday reported a rare case of monkeypox in a person who had recently traveled to Canada, and health officials are looking into whether it is linked to smaller outbreaks in Europe. Monkeypox is usually confined to Africa, and rare cases in the Americas and elsewhere are usually associated with travel there.
