Recently, UIDAI advised that “Aadhaar card should be freely used to prove identity and conduct transactions, but it should not be put on public platforms like Twitter, Facebook etc.” In this case, the photograph of the Aadhaar card was accessed by a third party and posted on the Amazon website by a seller selling a product-lamination pouch, known as “My Office Stationery”.

In the past, UIDAI had advised websites and media channels to refrain from sharing Aadhaar card visuals in stories and videos and gave clear instructions that personal details in Aadhaar card should be blurred.

Recently, UIDAI warned citizens to avoid using public computers in internet cafes/kiosks for downloading e-Aadhaar. “However, if you do so, it is highly recommended to delete all downloaded copies of e-Aadhaar,” it said.
