Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election: Aam Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Rinku has won the by-election in Jalandhar seat. Nineteen defeated her rival Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chowdhary by a wide margin. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Sushil Rinku was maintaining a steady lead over his rival and Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chowdhary.

Jalandhar seat of Punjab was occupied by Congress for years. AAP’s Sushil Kumar Rinku has won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll. With this, the Aam Aadmi Party’s account has been opened again from Punjab. Earlier Bhagwant Mann was the only MP. The Jalandhar seat was held by the Congress since 1999.,

The counting of votes has started from 8 am today. Officials said that the counting of votes started at 8 am. The appointments for the establishment of the Office of the Director Land Records and Sports College Complex at Kapurthala Road were set up to ensure security around the appointments.

Santokh Singh was sitting on the vacant seat after the death of Chowdhary.

The seat fell vacant after Congress MP from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chowdhary, died of a heart attack during the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” in January this year. The contest on this seat is four-cornered between the fallen Aam Aadmi Party, the main opposition Congress, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Political parties from all around are in the fray to fight with each other in Dalia-dominated seat. A total of 19 candidates are in the election field today, out of which four are women.

On this seat, Congress has given ticket to Karamjit Kaur, wife of handicapped Santokh Singh Choudhary, while ‘AAP’ has left Congress and former MLA Sushil Rinku is going to the field. Whereas BJP has given ticket to Portal Sikh Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal who left Shiromani Akali Dal.

Atwal is the son of Charanjit Singh Atwal, former Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Charanjit Singh Atwal has also joined BJP.

The Akali Dal has given funds to its two-time MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi. His trend was supported by the Bahujan Samaj Party.

In Punjab, 54.70 people exercised their franchise during the by-election for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat on Wednesday. This information was given by the Election Office in the final figures on Thursday.
In the Lok Sabha elections held in the year 2019, 63.04 percent voting was done. Relative to this, the voting percentage in the by-elections has been low.

According to reports, only 8,87,154 people polled from 16,21,800 attachments of the report area.

There are nine assembly constituencies under the Jalandhar seat. Of this, Shahkot recorded the highest polling of 58.23 per cent. The percentages followed were 57.97 percent, Jalandhar 56.49 percent, Nakodar 55.89 percent, Phillaur 55.81 percent, Jalandhar North 54.43 percent, Jalandhar 54.02 percent, Jalandhar Cantt 50.19 percent and Jalandhar Central 48.94 percent.
